Loan flop Andre Moreira makes Aston Villa exit
Villa have confirmed the departure of Andre Moreira with the goalkeeper returning to Atletico Madrid.
The 23-year-old Portuguese shot-stopper has cut short a season-long loan after failing to make a single Championship appearance.
Moreira, who became the club’s first signing last summer following the takeover by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, played only twice, both appearances coming in the Carabao Cup.
He had not been named in a matchday squad since September, with Villa boss Dean Smith last month expressing disappointment at his inability to put pressure on then No.1 Orjan Nyland.
Villa have since signed Croatia international keeper Lovre Kalinic and recalled Jed Steer from a loan move after Nyland suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.
That saw Moreira, a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, pushed down to effectively fourth-choice.
He now becomes the latest loan player to leave Villa in the space of a few days, with winger Yannick Bolasie having returned to parent club Everton on Monday.
