Aston Villa confirm Tommy Elphick loan recall
Villa have recalled Tommy Elphick from Hull to boost their defensive ranks.
The 31-year-old was allowed to join the Tigers on a season-long loan by former boss Steve Bruce in the summer and has made 18 Championship appearances.
But Villa are desperately short of numbers at the back and that has prompted Bruce's successor, Dean Smith, to exercise the recall clause.
Elphick will be eligible to play for Villa in their New Year’s Day clash against QPR.
Smith has lost Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe to a foot injury, while left-back Neil Taylor is also currently sidelined.
A return for Elphick, however, was always favoured by Smith with Villa already short on reinforcements before those injuries hit.
Villa are expected to be in the market for at least one more defender during the January transfer window, as they look to mount a promotion push during the second half of the season.
