The 34-year-old Scot ran from inside his own half to score against the Blues and put the icing on Villa’s 4-2 victory over their rivals.

Hutton’s effort took 71 per cent of the votes in an online poll which also included goals from Swansea’s Barry McKay and Nottingham Forest’s Joe Lolley, the latter scored against Villa in a 5-5 draw.

“It’s a real pleasure to have been awarded Goal of the Month - thank you to everyone who voted for me,” said Hutton.

“It was one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ goals. When you add that to the occasion it was a very special moment for me personally. I’ve never scored a goal like it and I’ll probably never score another like it ever again!”
