The 29-year-old left-back returned to the fold against his old club Swansea on Saturday.

It was just his fourth Championship start of the season and he made a vital last-ditch block as Dean Smith won his first game in charge 1-0.

Taylor, who was part of Wales’ Euro 2016 semi-finalists but is yet to play under Ryan Giggs, said: “Fingers crossed in the long term I can get back in, but I’m just not thinking about it at the moment.

“Right now it’s playing club football and the rest should take care of itself.

“A manager’s got a choice to make and if he’s already made it then it’s not going to do me any good ringing him up asking.

“You have to do it on the football pitch, that’s how most players should try and talk.”
