Hunt for Aston Villa cabbage-thrower begins
The hunt is on for an irate supporter who threw a cabbage at Villa boss Steve Bruce.
Police have confirmed they are working with the club to identify the culprit, who launched the vegetable toward Bruce prior to last night’s 3-3 home draw with Preston.
The cabbage did not hit the Villa boss, who later described the supporter concerned of showing a “lack of respect”.
A statement from West Midlands Police said: “A cabbage was thrown at the dugout from the stand. We are working with the club to identify the person responsible.”
The cabbage-throwing was just one of several incidents on an extraordinary night at Villa Park.
A streaker was also arrested for invading the pitch after Jonathan Kodjia had opened the scoring in the 27th minute.
Tammy Abraham doubled Villa’s advantage before the break to seemingly set them on course for a comfortable win.
But a chaotic second-half saw skipper James Chester sent-off before Preston fought back to lead 3-2 late on.
Substitute Yannick Bolasie dragged ten-man Villa level in stoppage time but Bruce’s team then blew a chance to win the match when Glenn Whelan saw his spot-kick saved.
Responding to the cabbage-throwing, Bruce said: "To say it's disappointing is an understatement for a club like this.
"Unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment. There's no respect for anyone."
