Steve Bruce handed blow with John Terry set for shock Spartak Moscow move
Steve Bruce’s hopes of reinforcing his suspect defence have been dealt a hammer blow with John Terry set to join Spartak Moscow in a surprise two-year deal.
Villa had been favourites to re-sign free-agent Terry after being left light in their backline following the departure of Tommy Elphick, and Bruce’s failure to find a replacement during the loan window.
But hours after giving an interview to a national newspaper in which he said he still felt he had ‘unfinished business’ at Villa, the former former Chelsea and England captain flew out aboard a private jet for a medical in Monaco ahead of a move which could see him net up to £3million, according to some reports.
Spartak hinted at an imminent announcement on their Twitter account, saying they were opening the doors for “a very important guest”.
Villa could now turn their attentions to Terry’s former Chelsea team-mate Robert Huth, who is without a club after being released after three years at Leicester City.
