The Villa boss had helped to secure a season-long deal for the 29-year-old on Thursday, only for the move to be held up.

It is understood Villa are now waiting for Bolasie to tie-up a couple of loose ends with the Toffees before the switch can be rubber-stamed.

Bruce remains optimistic over landing his man.

“We're trying and hope we can get a few things over the line,” he said. “We hope that Yannick Bolasie is one of those.

“There's still a few bits and pieces to be done with that one but hopefully we can announce something later on today (Friday), if not tomorrow.

“We expect to be fully active up until the loan deadline next Friday.”

Bolasie was in the crowd as Villa drew 2-2 with Brentford on Wednesday night and is keen to make the move in order to kick-start a career which has stalled due to injury.

New signing Anwar El Ghazi, who joined on loan from Lille earlier this week, could feature for Villa against Reading tomorrow if the club receive international clearance in time.

Keinan Davis and Scott Hogan (both groin) remains sidelined, while Alan Hutton may miss out after breaking his nose against Brentford.
