Brentford striker Neal Maupay hit with three-game ban for stamp on Aston Villa's John McGinn

Maupay has accepted an FA charge of violent conduct, following the incident in the 42nd minute of Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw at Villa Park.

The 22-year-old stamped on McGinn as the midfielder lay on the floor, after tussling for the ball with Brentford’s Lewis Macleod.

Though referee Jon Moss missed the incident, it was picked up by TV cameras.

Maupay, who had earlier opened the scoring, went on to put the Bees 2-1 up with eight minutes remaining, before Jonathan Kodjia netted a last-gasp leveller for Villa.

An FA spokesman said: “Neal Maupay will miss Brentford’s next three matches after accepting a charge of violent conduct.

“This follows an incident not seen by the match officials but caught on video in the 42nd minute of Wednesday’s game against Aston Villa.”

Brentford boss Dean Smith, who claimed to not have witnessed the incident at the time, said Maupay “understood the severity” of his action.

He said: “I reviewed the incident with Neal and spoke to him this morning.

“He understands the severity of his action and that he will be suspended for three games.

“We did not want to prolong the process so have accepted the charge immediately.”
