Aston Villa make loan move for Atletico shot-stopper Andre Moreira
Villa are set to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Andre Moreira on loan in the coming days, the Express & Star understands.
The 22-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Spanish side, but has enjoyed temporary spells in his native Portugal with Belenenses, Braga and União Madeira.
Moreira, who is managed by super-agent Jorge Mendes, is understood to have undergone a medical at Bodymoor Heath and will rival Jed Steer for the number one jersey next season.
His arrival is the first foray into the transfer market for new club owners Nassef Sawaris and Wes Edens.
It is believed manager Steve Bruce identified a new keeper as a priority when he met with the businessman for crunch talks earlier this week.
Steer is highly rated at Villa Park but his career has seen him blighted by injury.
And Villa need competition for the 25-year-old after Sam Johnstone – who was on loan from Manchester United last season – joined Albion in a £5million deal.
