Henri Lansbury reportedly set for bigger Aston Villa role this season
Henri Lansbury is set to play a bigger role at Villa Park this season, with the midfielder unlikely to depart the club this summer - according to reports.
The former Nottingham Forest midfielder experienced a frustrating campaign last season, totalling just 13 appearances in all competitions for Villa - with Mile Jedinak, Glenn Whelan, Conor Hourihane and Birkir Bjarnason all favoured by Steve Bruce.
However, with the boss admitting that a number of big names are set to leave B6, reports suggest that Lansbury will not be one of them, due to his expensive wages.
Jedinak and Bjarnason are both being linked with exits this month, opening up an opportunity for the 27-year-old, who's earning a reported £40k-per week.
Lansbury is unlikely to receive a similarly lucrative offer elsewhere, and will likely be utilised more often as Bruce looks to prepare for several departures ahead of the start of the season.
The central midfielder played the entirety of the 4-1 win over Walsall earlier this week, and also logged 75 minutes during the 1-1 draw with Kidderminster last weekend.
Lansbury scored 33 goals in 150 appearances for Forest before making his move to Villa Park in January 2017.
He managed to play a full 90 minutes just four times last season under Bruce, scoring two league goals and registering three assists.
