Aston Villa Blog: Good run comes at the right time for play-off form
A good week in terms of six points last week has only highlighted now the silly points we have thrown away that could have easily got us second place this season.
But that’s old news now, we are where we are and now barring a miracle set of results we will have to do it the hard way through the play-offs, writes Justin Hawthorne.
We have shown real guts and no shortage of talent this season in large parts, but thrown away silly points too many times, but I suppose most teams could say that.
It’s also very important now we finish the season in good form and keep our match winners fit and firing, perhaps rotate them to keep them fresh for the play-offs.
The thought of what kind of team will start the first game of next season now solely depends on promotion and should we not get up, I fear our side won’t have the same chances of promotion next season with the threat of FFP and having to cut our wage bill.
While I despise the fact that money now means everything in modern football and without it you can not be successful, you have to unfortunately just accept it.
So let’s just pray that we have seen the end of the blips and with potentially six games to go we can remain unbeaten and join our nearest but not so dearest rivals Wolves in the top flight.
