Villa host the Bluebirds tonight with boss Bruce demanding a response from his players after Saturday’s sorry 3-1 defeat at Norwich, a result which all but ended their hopes of automatic promotion.

Striker Lewis Grabban and a fit-again midfielder Glenn Whelan are among several players who could come into the starting line-up as the manager looks to reinvigorate his side, following an alarming run of just one win in five games.

Bruce, who accused his team of letting themselves down at Carrow Road, has admitted Villa must get back to doing the basics better.

He said: “Our momentum has gone with the results. It’s not about performance now. It’s about getting results and getting the job done.”

Owner Tony Xia yesterday declared himself ‘gutted’ with the Norwich performance and claimed it had taken him two days to recover from the defeat.

He added on Twitter: “We have to recharge and get it going again.”

A win for Villa tonight would move them back to within four points of the visitors, who themselves need a victory to ensure they remain in front of Fulham, who have not lost since December.
