Bruce heads back to the KCOM Stadium for the first time since quitting the Tigers when Villa visit for a crucial Championship clash.

The former Blues and Sunderland boss walked away from the Tigers in July 2016 despite having led the club to promotion for the second time, citing differences with owner Ehab Allam.

Talking with the Hull Daily Mail ahead of his return with Villa, Bruce said: “It was fairly obvious for the sake of the club that I needed to walk away. And that’s what disappointed me most.

“I was walking away from the Premier League but I knew if I stayed we wouldn’t get anything done. Too often, mainly over players, we were in disagreement.”

Bruce took over at Villa Park in October 2016 and has succeeded in reversing the club’s decline.

Villa go to Hull eager for a win which would both halt a two-game losing streak and keep alive their slender hopes of automatic promotion.

The hosts are battling at the other end of the table, just six points above the relegation zone.

Bruce could be set for a triple injury boost with Neil Taylor, Axel Tuanzebe and Alan Hutton having all returned to training.
