The 19-year-old has agreed a deal which will keep him at Villa Park until the summer of 2020.

Despite missing most of the current campaign due to injury, Green is seen as a key part of the future by boss Steve Bruce.

The academy product was a first-team regular at the start of the season, making three Championship starts and scoring his first senior goal – a spectacular strike in a 4-2 win against Norwich.

But he has not featured in the league since undergoing hamstring surgery in September.

Green played 45 minutes in Villa’s 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Peterborough in early January but further hamstring issues have kept him sidelined since.

With Villa in the thick of the promotion race, the England under-20s star is now hopeful of returning to action for the final run-in.
