Tributes flood in following death of Steve Bruce's father
Joe Bruce, the father of Villa manager Steve, has died.
Bruce senior passed away this morning at a tough time for the Bruce family as Steve's mum, Sheenagh, remains in hospital having been taken seriously ill last week.
Villa confirmed: "The thoughts of everyone at Aston Villa are with our manager Steve Bruce and his family, following the passing of his father.
"The club would like to offer our deepest condolences and kindly request that the family’s privacy is respected at this difficult time."
Steve's son Alex posted the following message on Twitter this afternoon: "Unfortunately my Grandad passed away this morning, it’s been a terrible few days as my Gran was taken seriously ill last Monday and is in hospital......my Dad is in need of a few days to get over this shock and I hope his privacy is respected at this tough time. Thanks"
Following the post, Alex was flooded with hundreds of replies wishing him, Steve and the rest of the Bruce family well.
Villa fan Kevin Hughes wrote: "Terrible news, hope your dad and the rest of the family are able to come to terms with your loss. At times like these football really is not important. Regards."
