We rate the players after a thoroughly disappointing afternoon at Villa Park.

Ritchie De Laet

Impressed in the early stages, when he got forward well down the right and provided the assist for Davis to put Villa ahead. Was far less certain in defence and less effective in the second half. 6/10.

James Bree

More naturally a right-back, Bree had played centre-back in the Carabao Cup win over Wigan earlier in the season but this was a far less assured performance. 5/10.

John Terry

Made a number of key tackles and blocks as Peterborough poured forward time and again. Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of the day for Villa was the fact their skipper came through 90 minutes unscathed. 6/10.

Neil Taylor

Started brightly but, much like De Laet on the opposite flank, found himself getting pushed further and further back. Given a testing time by the lively Marriott. 5/10.

Josh Onomah

A very ragged performance from the Tottenham loanee, who has in recent weeks gone worryingly off the boil. Misplaced passes and continually made the wrong decision. 4/10.

Conor Hourihane

Went close to putting Villa two ahead with a left-footed shot which whistled just wide of the post. Guilty of picking the wrong option on too many occasions as he looked to direct play. 5/10.

Birkir Bjarnason

No shortage of work-rate from the Iceland international, who began centrally before moving out wide in the second half. Quality was lacking, however - and lord knows how he failed to score. 5/10.

Callum O’Hare

The teenager appeared to be trying a little too hard at times during the first-half. Showed some brief flashes of quality but was denied by Posh keeper Bond when through on goal. 5/10.

Keinan Davis

Started impressively, firing Villa into an eighth minute lead with his third goal of the season. Held the ball up well but could have used it better. 6/10.

Andre Green

Almost enjoyed a dream start, being denied by a sharp save from Bond inside the opening 20 seconds. Looked lively and was a useful outlet before being brought off at the break. 6/10.

Star Man: Jed Steer

He might have conceded three goals, yet Peterborough’s margin of victory would have been wider had it not been for the goalkeeper’s reflexes. Denied Marcus Maddison, Jack Marriott and Danny Lloyd before being beaten. 7/10.

Substitutes

Henri Lansbury (for Green, HT)

Sent O’Hare through on goal with a delightful reverse pass. 6/10.

Jack Grealish (for O’Hare, 80 mins)

Unable to help Villa through.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (for Bjarnason, 80)

Some nice touches.
