Jack Grealish has “no doubts” Villa will halt their slide and be in the Championship promotion mix come May.

Villa went to Middlesbrough today desperate to halt a five-game winless streak which has seen them tumble out of the top six.

The rotten December run has ramped up the pressure on boss Steve Bruce ahead of two games in 48 hours, the second of which sees Villa host Bristol City on New Year’s Day.

But Grealish is confident the club’s fortunes can quickly change.

He said: “We’ve had a blip in December but the Championship is one of those leagues where a result or two can propel you up two or three places.

“We are all really disappointed at dropping out the top six but we are only at the halfway stage and there is a lot of football to be played.

“I’ve no doubts we will climb the table and be where we need to be at the end of the season.”

Former Albion boss Tony Pulis was poised to take charge of Boro for the first time, having replaced Garry Monk in the Riverside hotseat earlier this week.

The hosts are above eighth-placed Villa in the table on goal difference and Grealish said: “I’m sure there players will want to impress their new manager but this would have been a tough game regardless of whether or not they changed manager.

“But we’ve got focus on what we do and concentrate on our own game plan rather than the opposition. With the team we’ve got, we feel like we can beat anyone. I’m sure we can go there and get the win.”
