Scott Hogan has so far struggled to stay fit this season.

The 25-year-old striker, signed from Brentford for £12million last January, has been hampered by a series of injuries in his time at the club so far.

He is now back to full fitness following a recent stomach operation.

And ahead of facing his Hogan's former employers, Bruce said: "Scott hasn’t been fit. He had an operation four or five weeks ago and unfortunately it set him back a little bit.

"The one thing I’m trying, and it’s difficult at the moment, is I don’t want to put people in who haven’t trained in case they get injured again.

"Scott, it’s his time. Hopefully he can have a run of training week in, week out because he’s been stop-start with injuries."

Hogan came on for the final 15 minutes of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, along with Gabby Agbonlahor.

On the chances of Agbonlahor being involved at Griffin Park, Bruce said: "Gabby has now gone over on his ankle so if I was a betting man I can’t see him being ready."

And on whether he will make many changes for the Brentford clash, Bruce added: "The great thing about football is that it’s another game and I will look to freshen it up.

"There’s been a few players waiting patiently in the wings and I do believe we need a freshness going down to Brentford."
