Villa went two up inside 10 minutes through Albert Adomah - from the penalty spot - and Mile Jedinak but Clayton Donaldson's double meant the spoils were shared.

Jedinak lost his footing in the build-up to Donaldson's second, and Bruce said: " As a coach or manager, the one thing you can’t legislate for is individual error.

"It’s cost us last week in a big game and it’s cost us today.

"Individual error is one thing you can’t account for and unfortunately, after a wonderful start, we’ve gifted two goals to them.

"The manner of it was totally disappointing."

Villa are now sixth in the Championship - nine points off second-placed Leeds, and 16 behind table-toppers Wolves.

"We’ve gifted Sheffield the opportunity to get back into the game and before you know it it’s a big difficult game," said Bruce.

"The crowd and everyone else has gone on edge because of what we’ve basically gifted to them.

"It’s a big, huge disappointment - but that’s where we are.

Meanwhile, Bruce provided an update on John Terry.

The veteran defender is on the sidelines after suffering a broken metatarsal against Sheffield Wednesday on November 4.

"We’ve just got to wait. We need to give it time," added Bruce.

"He’s not ready and it’s a broken bone, we can’t rush him.

"We’d all love to see him out there but we’ve got to be patient."
