The 21-year-old, whose deal at Villa Park was due to expire next summer, has signed a two-year contract.

Toner departs Villa having made four first-team appearances, all of which came in the final weeks of 2015-16 season after the club's relegation from the Premier League had been confirmed.

He also had loan spells at both Kidderminster Harriers and Walsall.

Having found opportunities hard to come by over the past 18 months at Villa, Toner began this season on loan at Stevenage.

Toner, who was born in Meath and was capped by the Republic of Ireland at under-19 level, said: "I am really excited about the future here.

“Playing for Villa and a few clubs in England was a great experience, but having the opportunity to come back home and play football was something I wanted to do.”
