Aston Villa skipper John Terry confirms broken metatarsal

Villa skipper John Terry has confirmed he suffered a broken a bone in his foot during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 36-year-old is facing a spell on the sidelines after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

Terry confirmed the news on Instagram, posting a picture of his foot in a walking boot with a message which read: “Devastated is an understatement to how I’m feeling tonight, after my CT scan I have just had news that I have broken my 5th metatarsal.

“I will be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as possible.”

Terry, who had played in every minute of Villa’s Championship campaign prior to Saturday, suffered the injury after sliding in to challenge Wednesday’s Morgan Fox just 20 minutes into the game.

Speaking after the game, Villa boss Steve Bruce said: “He will be out for some time.

“He has been immense the last few months. When you analyse it tomorrow, that is when it will really hit us.

“You just hope it is one where he is out for six weeks as opposed to 12 weeks.”
