Villa have described the early prognosis of Jonathan Kodjia’s ankle injury as “encouraging” with the striker still being assessed by the club’s medical department.

Kodjia was forced off late during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Blues after going over on the same ankle he broke at Blackburn back in April.

The Ivory Coast international was sidelined for more than four months, missing the start of the current campaign.

His injury on Sunday sparked concerns of another long-term absence but while Villa are still to confirm how long the 28-year-old he will miss, they have hinted the injury is not as bad as feared.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The club are in close communication with the consultant and will review accordingly.

“However, the early prognosis is encouraging.”

At the very least Kodjia will miss Wednesday’s Championship fixture at Preston.

Teenage star Keinan Davis is expected to lead the line as Villa hunt a third away win of the season at Deepdale.
