Steve Bruce: There's more to come from Aston Villa

The 4-0 victory at the Pirelli Stadium was Villa’s third on the bounce in the league and their biggest win since Bruce took charge 11 months ago.

It also saw them record back-to-back away wins for the first time in more than three years as they climbed to eighth in the table, now two points outside the top six.

But Bruce, who faced questions over his future less than a fortnight ago, believes there is still more to come.

“The start we had to the season wasn’t good enough but I always thought we needed a bit of time,” he said.

“That is what you urge for. I have been here nearly a year. We still need a bit more. I don’t think we are there totally but we are far better than we were a while ago.”

Goals from Keinan Davis, Albert Adomah, Robert Snodgrass and Josh Onomah saw Villa humble the Brewers, ahead of Saturday’s home game with bottom of the table Bolton.

Davis, who has played in every game of Villa’s current seven-match unbeaten run in the league, has now scored two in three games.

Bruce later revealed he had considered resting the teenager. He said: “Keinan is only 19 and he wasn’t great before the game on Saturday. I was toying with the idea of giving him a rest. I am glad I didn’t. It was a great header.

“We have to look after him. He is only 19 but has had a wonderful six weeks. If he keeps his feet on the floor he has a big chance.”

Bruce continued: “I enjoyed watching us. It is always nice when you have a convincing win away from home.

“That can only breed a bit of confidence. If you can get confident, we have good players here. It breeds that bit into them.

“We have gone back to back away games now, scoring three at Barnsley and four tonight. It gives us a nice platform going into the winter.”
