Five things Robert Snodgrass brings to Aston Villa

The main operating area for the ex-Hull City man, Snodgrass is best positioned on the left or right-wing.

From the left he can produce some exquisite deliveries, whilst from the right he has the ability to cut in and get a shot on-goal making him a dynamic offering for Steve Bruce.

Whilst he can be utilised down the middle, the Hammers man will likely find a home towards the touchline for Villa - offering competition for Andre Green, Ahmed Elmohamady and Albert Adomah, amongst others.

The man himself has mentioned that he doesn't particularly enjoy being played on the left side of the pitch though, meaning fans should expect him on the right or off the striker.

Quality delivery

Whilst you can spend all the cash you want on strikers, there's no guarantee of goals unless you have quality service to them too.

But with the likes of Snodgrass, Bruce can rely on him to offer a number of top-notch deliveries each game which the likes of Scott Hogan, Keinan Davis and Jonathan Kodjia will feast on.

Villa have worked on this previously; shown by the signings of Conor Hourihane and Ahmed Elmohamady, and adding the Scot to that will be an undoubted help.

What's more, the former Tiger is also very adept in dead-ball situations, offering a genuine threat around the box alongside Hourihane, and Ross McCormack - if he ever dons claret and blue again.

Promotion experience

A job which Steve Bruce has done well with this summer is adding promotion experience to his side.

Snodgrass is yet another name to add to that list too, having helped lead Hull (who were then managed by Bruce) to the top flight in the 2015/16 season.

The following year he even impressed in the Premier League, eventually bagging his move to West Ham.

Those experiences will be of use in a testing Championship campaign for Villa, and could give them the edge over some other promotion hopefuls.

Goals from midfield

Goals were an issue for Aston Villa last season, especially when Jonathan Kodjia wasn't on the pitch - with the midfield struggling to threaten the goal.

That's already been remedied this season by Hourihane's recent goalscoring efforts, but adding more in the shape of Snodgrass would do no harm.

When at Hull last season, the winger managed seven goals in 20 appearances, a tally which Bruce would be thrilled to see replicated at Villa Park.

Whilst his spell at West Ham might raise some eyebrows, given a new chance at B6 - he could recapture his previous form.

An added fear factor

Whilst he might not be a household name, plenty of defenders will be well aware of his talents on the pitch and the dangers he poses from set-pieces.

This will likely have defenders fearful of his regular deliveries into the box and his potential to make things happen at any given moment.

Villa of course have a number of players that can worry their opponents already, with John Terry and Jonathan Kodjia both being big names on the teamsheet.

However, whilst the Scot might not quite match up with those names, he'll still be a player a defender rather wouldn't face.
