Steve Bruce: Robert Snodgrass can add "sparkle" to Aston Villa

Steve Bruce reckons Robert Snodgrass will provide an added edge to Villa’s attack should they be successful in completing a loan swoop for the West Ham winger.

Villa are closing in on a deal which would see the 29-year-old join on a season-long loan from Hammers.

Snodgrass has been deemed surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, less than a year after moving from Hull for £10.2million.

Boss Bruce, who managed the Scotland international at Hull, believes he would add another versatile option to his Villa squad.

“I have had the pleasure of working with him at Hull and all the things you talk about, quality and experience, he has in abundance,” said Bruce.

“He has been there and worn the T-shirt. It hasn’t quite worked out for him at West Ham. We are trying our best to get it over the line.

“He will add a bit of sparkle, if you like. He can play in every position up the front, off the front, left or right. He’s a very good player.”

He continued: “It’s something that is interesting us. We have had conversations but as with most of these things now, it is not a done deal just yet.

“There are still bits and pieces to do. We are hopeful we can get something done.”

Villa head to Bristol City tomorrow night aiming to complete the perfect week after wins following up last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Norwich by beating Wigan 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.

Full-back Alan Hutton will miss the trip to Ashton Gate with an ankle injury, while Bruce also expects to again be without influential midfielder Mile Jedinak.

Tottenham loanee Josh Onomah has recovered from the head injury which forced him off early in the win over Norwich, while Bruce expects Keinan Davis to play despite the striker having struggled with a hamstring injury in training this week.
