Villa have received a significant boost with influential midfielder Mile Jedinak pushing to return for Saturday’s crunch clash with Norwich.

Boss Steve Bruce confirmed the 33-year-old has returned to training following his recovery from groin surgery and could feature against the Canaries.

Jedinak has been a hugely important player since joining in a £4million move from Crystal Palace 12 months ago, to the extent that Villa have not won a game in which the Australian international has not featured.

Winger Ahmed Elmohamady could also return for Saturday's game at Villa Park, while Bruce has not ruled out Scott Hogan playing some part.

Elmohamady required 33 stitches on a mouth injury sustained during last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Cardiff, while Hogan was forced off in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Reading with an ankle injury.

“With Scott, it’s not as bad as it was previously,” said Bruce. “He had an injection into his ankle on Wednesday morning. That seems to have settled it down a bit.

“That’s two or three times now where he’s jarred it. We will see how he is this morning. I haven’t ruled him out totally for Saturday.

“Elmo wants to play. That’s typical Elmo – and why I bought him. He had 33 stitches in his lip on Saturday. There’s not many people would put themselves up like Elmo. He wants to be involved.

“Mile has trained all week. He wants to be involved too. They’ll be good additions to us straight away.”
