Left-back Amavi is poised to complete a move back to Marseille after the French club and Villa agreed a fee.

Bacuna could meanwhile join Reading in the coming days, with the Royals having reignited their interest in the midfielder.

Neither player travelled with Villa to Colchester for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup first round tie.

Speaking after the 2-1 victory in Essex, boss Steve Bruce confirmed a fee had been agreed with Marseille for Amavi while also revealing Bacuna’s departure was “close”.

The boss said: “It looks as if Amavi is off. That looks as if it’s very close. We pulled him off the bus this morning.

“Bacuna is another one, we have interest from a Championship club so we’ll see what develops.”

The terms of Amavi’s proposed move remain unclear at this stage, though Villa were understood to be demanding a fee of around £8million for a player who joined them from Nice in 2015.

Amavi was on the verge of joining Sevilla last month, only for the transfer to break down at the last minute when it was claimed the 23-year-old had failed a medical.

Villa previously rejected an offer thought to be in the region of £1.5million from Reading for Bacuna.

No agreement has yet been reached between the clubs but Villa are willing to let the 25-year-old depart.
