Five-time Premier League winner and former England skipper Terry has dropped down to the Championship in order to help lead a promotion push at Villa Park.

Midfielder Hourihane admitted the 36-year-old’s arrival earlier this month gave the entire squad a boost and has urged his team-mates to make the most of a rare opportunity to play alongside such a high-profile star.

He said: “You look at him over the years being such a fantastic player in the Premier League.

“John is an icon of the game. All of a sudden he is training with you and you think ‘ooh, bloody hell’.

“Watching him from afar, how he goes about himself and has stayed at that level for so long. It is interesting for myself.I will definitely trying to take as many pointers off him as possible because the chance to play with a player like that does not come around very often.”

Terry ended a 22-year association with Chelsea when he moved to Villa on a free transfer.

Hourihane believes the centre-back, made skipper for the season by boss Steve Bruce, has settled in well to his new surroundings.

He added: “He has been fantastic. He has bedded in very easily. I think all of the lads are over the moon to have him here. He will only benefit this club and this team.”
