Rivals eye Aston Villa misfit Ross McCormack

Ross McCormack's hopes of leaving Villa this summer appear improved after a host of Championship clubs emerged as suitors for the misfit striker.

Derby, Hull City and Reading have all been linked with the 30-year-old who is deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park.

Sunderland have also mooted as potential destination for the Scot though, contrary to some reports, it is understood no discussions have yet taken place between the Mackems and Villa over a possible move.

McCormack was among several players left out of Villa’s travelling party for the recent pre-season trip to Germany and the club are willing to listen to offers for a player who scored only three goals last season following a £12million move from Fulham and ended the campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest.

A permanent deal would be preferred but with McCormack’s £40,000-a-week wages a stumbling block for many clubs in the second tier, another loan move has not been ruled out.

Sunderland are also thought to be rivalling Blues for defender Tommy Elphick, while left-back Aly Cissokho is expected to join Turkish club in the coming days.

Villa have made five signings so far this summer and Bruce remains keen on bringing in another attacking player.
