The 29-year-old wideman sealed his expected transfer on Wednesday, putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

He will be soon be followed to Villa Park by Glenn Whelan after the club agreed a fee with Stoke City for the midfielder which could eventually be worth £1.5million.

The 33-year-old, who has spent almost a decade in the Potteries, has been undergoing a medical at Bodymoor Heath ahead of the move.

It is the third time Elmohamady has been signed by Villa boss Steve Bruce, who previously recruited the Egypt international for Sunderland and Hull.

Elmohamady spent five seasons with the Tigers, playing his part in two successful promotion campaigns and now wants to claim a third with Villa.

“I have been promoted twice with Hull and with the manager too,” he said. “In the Championship you need a good squad that is together.

“It is a long season. Togetherness is the main thing to get the club to the Premier League. We have the players here to get the club back up there.

“I watched some Villa games last season and they have some great players.”

He continued: “It’s a great time to join too as we look for promotion to the Premier League. I will give absolutely everything to help us achieve that goal.

"I know, first hand, what it takes to win promotion and I want that feeling again.”

Elmohamady is club's third new signing of the summer and will be closely followed by Whelan after Villa, who had an initial £500,000 offer for the Republic of Ireland international turned down last month, returned to Stoke with an improved bid.

Jordan Veretout is meanwhile poised to depart for St Etienne, while defender Tommy Elphick could also leave the club in the coming days.
