Aston Villa's Easah Suliman "overwhelmed" after helping England to Euro glory
Teenage Villa star Easah Suliman has admitted to feeling “overwhelmed” after helping England win the European Under-19s Championship.
The 19-year-old defender scored the opener in Saturday’s final against Portugal in Georgia when he headed home after Mason Mount’s free-kick had struck the post.
A sliced own goal from Chelsea right-back Dujon Sterling saw Portugal level before the hour mark but England then grabbed the winner when Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha swept home on 68 minutes.
Suliman said: “I feel unbelievable. To bring the trophy home is surreal. I still can’t believe it.
“The moment the referee’s whistle went up to his mouth I knew we had done it.
“I have already got a lot of messages of congratulations from the lads and coaches at Villa. It means a lot to me.
“I am overwhelmed by the achievement. I am already focused on the coming season now, too. My aim is to push on and make an impact.”
Suliman is yet to make his senior bow at Villa but has been a regular in the club’s under-23 side for the past two seasons.
He signed a new deal which will keep him at Villa Park until 2019 last December, having spent the early part of the season on loan at League Two Cheltenham Town.
Suliman featured in every game of the under-19s successful campaign in Georgia. The team were managed by former Wolves midfielder and Albion assistant boss Keith Downing.
