Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia slams Sevilla over 'disrespectful' Jordan Amavi transfer saga

Furious Villa owner Tony Xia has accused Sevilla of showing “no respect” after another twist in the transfer saga surrounding Jordan Amavi.

The 23-year-old looked set to complete an £8million switch to Spain earlier this week only for the La Liga club to pull out of the deal at the 11th hour, claiming the left-back had failed a medical.

That version of events was quickly refuted by Xia, who insisted there was no issue over Amavi’s fitness and that Sevilla were looking for an excuse to renege on the agreed transfer.

Relations between the clubs then further soured yesterday, when Sevilla are understood to have enquired about taking the former France under-21 international on loan for the season, an offer which was swiftly rebuffed by Villa.

Xia expressed his anger on Twitter by posting: “Me and SB/SR (Villa boss Steve Bruce and technical director Steve Round) all are angry with the way they (Sevilla) treated player and Villa. No respect!”

Reports in Spain have meanwhile claimed Deportivo are close to completing a move for another of Villa’s want-away players, midfielder Carles Gil.

Villa begin their pre-season schedule tonight with a double-bill at Kidderminster Harriers and AFC Telford. Both games kick-off at 7.45pm.
