Jordan Amavi’s proposed £8million move from Villa to Sevilla could be off following reports the left-back has failed his medical.

The 23-year-old’s two-year stay at Villa Park appeared over after the clubs agreed a fee late last week.

But Seville-based newspaper Diario de Sevilla now claim the move is off after medical tests over the weekend picked up an as yet unspecified problem.

That claim was later disputed by Villa owner Tony Xia, who instead insisted the medical had been passed and that Amavi’s injury history was being used as an excuse not to complete the deal. The former France under-21 international suffered a serious knee injury just a few months after joining Villa in a £10million move from Nice in the summer of 2015.

He recovered to make 36 appearances in the Championship for Villa last season but is among several players the club are seeking to move on this summer.

Should his move to Sevilla fall through it may have repercussions for Villa’s future plans for in the transfer market.

Boss Steve Bruce is expected to move on as many as ten players in a bid to raise funds and ease any concerns over Financial Fair Play.
