Aston Villa transfer news: Dr Tony Xia effectively confirms deal for John Terry
Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has effectively confirmed the club's signing of John Terry on Twitter.
Terry was 'imminently' due to sign with the club, and it seems that Villa will confirm his arrival at B6 today - following his Chelsea exit.
Xia confirmed the news on Twitter, stating: "Welcome JT to Birmingham city...Aston Villa!#UTV! @AVFCOfficial Announcement shortly!"
The tweet effectively confirms the news regarding the former England captain, and also taking a shot at Birmingham City, who were also keen on the 36-year-old.
Villa are yet to confirm the signing officially, but are expected to reveal their first new player imminently.
West Brom, Swansea, Bournemouth and clubs outside of England were all keen on the 36-year-old, who has left Chelsea after over two decades at the club.
Reports suggest Terry will join in a 12-month deal worth approximately £60,000 per week, incentivised with bonuses potentially worth up to £4m.
Villa are now in Portugal for pre-season training, and it's expected that Terry will link up with the squad in the coming days following his confirmation.
