Aston Villa confident of decent fee for Carles Gil

Villa are increasingly confident of commanding a significant fee for Carles Gil this summer with the playmaker attracting serious interest from a number of clubs in Spain.

The 24-year-old spent the season on loan at Deportivo and the Galicians are one of several clubs willing to offer him a permanent return to his homeland and La Liga.

Gil has made no secret of his desire to leave Villa Park and is eager to complete a move before the start of pre-season.

Villa are happy to oblige and believe the level of interest from Spain increases their chances of recouping a decent portion of the £3.2million they paid Valencia for the player in January 2015.

Gil is one of up to 10 players who could leave during the transfer window as Villa look to ensure they comply with Financial Fair Play regulations and build funds for manager Steve Bruce’s transfer kitty.

French duo Jordan Veretout and Jordan Amavi are also attracting interest from clubs on the continent, while a deal for Carlos Sanchez to join Fiorentina for a fee of £2.5million is already in place.

“A number of the loan players have interested from the clubs they’re on loan to already,” explained chief executive Keith Wyness earlier this month.

“They have indicated there are things to be done and there are a number of players we have had a fair bit of interest in.

“There are a number of things happening already. It’s surprising how early things have started moving in this window.”
