Fears over the 25-year-old’s fitness were sparked when he twisted his ankle during Sunday’s season-ending 1-1 draw with Brighton at Villa Park.

But scans have revealed no ligament or bone damage and Hogan is expected to make a swift recovery.

The news will come as a huge relief for Villa boss Steve Bruce, who is already set to be without Jonathan Kodjia at the start of next season, after the club’s top scorer underwent surgery last week on a fractured fibula.

Hogan has scored only once in 13 appearances for Villa since joining from Brentford in a £12million deadline day move back in January.

The former Rochdale hitman missed a month of action after suffering a similar ankle injury in Villa’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle in February and will be eager to play a key role next term, as the club target promotion to the Premier League.
