Villa are treating fans to a free beer at this Sunday’s season finale against Brighton as a gesture of thanks for their support.

The drinks will very much be on owner Tony Xia as the club bring the curtain down on a largely disappointing campaign when they host the title-chasing Seagulls at Villa Park.

Season ticket holders will receive a free Heineken or soft drink and have the chance to tweet their free drink photos to the club for a special pitchside prize.

Villa have been backed in big numbers this season both home and away despite never threatening at the top end of the Championship table during a season which has fallen some way below expectations.

Brighton, by contrast, will arrive at Villa Park knowing victory would be enough to clinch the title. The Seagulls have lost back-to-back games against Norwich and Bristol City since securing promotion to the top flight last month but remain in control of their own destiny.

Chris Hughton’s team only need to equal Newcastle’s result in order to go up as champions and the Football League yesterday confirmed plans to present them with the trophy at Villa Park, should that be the case.

Former Villa midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has, meanwhile, joined Norwegian second tier club IK Start, following a trial in Spain with Granada.
