The 24-year-old striker has penned a four-and-a-half year contract after the club's agreed a deal which will see Villa pay an initial fee of £9million.

Hogan becomes boss Steve Bruce's eighth and final signing of a busy January window and the third player to arrive on deadline day after defenders Neil Taylor and Jacob Bedeau also completed moves.

Ashley Westwood and Jordan Ayew meanwhile left Villa for Burnley and Swansea respectively, while outcast striker Ross McCormack is on the verge of sealing a loan move to Nottingham Forest.

But it was the capture of Hogan which captured the headlines as Villa sealed the signing of a player who for much of the month had looked destined for a move to the Premier League and West Ham.

The Hammers decision to ultimately not pursue their interest prompted Bruce to switch his attentions from long-time target Jordan Rhodes.

"I'm delighted to be at a club like Aston Villa," said Hogan.

"With its history and tradition I can't wait to start working hard and helping the team.

"It all happened quite quickly and now I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates tomorrow and beginning a new chapter in my career."

Hogan has scored 21 goals in 33 appearances for the Bees since joining them from Rochdale for £750,000 in summer 2014. The League One club are set to receive a 20 per cent cut of the transfer fee.

Ayew meanwhile moved to Swansea as part of the deal which saw Taylor leave the Welsh club to become a Villa player. Westwood completed a switch to Burnley for a fee of £5million.
