Steve Bruce slams Aston Villa's 'pathetic' performance against Norwich

Steve Bruce labelled Villa's performance 'pathetic' and blasted it the worst showing since he took over in October.

The claret and blues put in an abject display in the 1-0 defeat at Norwich last night and Bruce said his side failed to do the basics.

The Villa boss admitted his side deserved nothing out of the game and said a late shout for a penalty would have been 'harsh' on a dominant Norwich side.

"After the weekend and getting out of jail you think we're coming here with our tails up and we certainly didn't take part in the game," said a dejected Bruce. "Days like today you apologise to the people who have travelled all this way because it was pretty pathetic stuff I have to say."

Bruce changed his side from the side which secured a late win over Wigan at the weekend, bringin in Gabby Agbonlahor and Ashley Westwood for Albert Adomah and Gary Gardner but Villa never got going.

"We didn't do the basics, we didn't get hold of the ball, we gave it away, we'd turn the ball over to them every time. We didn't do enough in all aspects of the game.

"That's terribly disappointing."

Bruce admitted Villa would have been lucky to get a penalty late on after a challenge on Ross McCormack, adding: "We can't get any worse than that. In the 10 games I've been here that's easily the worst performance we've put in."
