Dwight Yorke fears Aston Villa will struggle

Dwight Yorke today warned Villa they face another season of struggle because they have not progressed.

The former Villa striker has predicted a battle against the drop after failing to see signs of improvement under Paul Lambert.

He said: "I can see Villa struggling again, they haven't enough quality to really mount a challenge and unfortunately it's going to be another difficult season.

"They haven't really progressed in the last three years. Something has to give, the club is up for sale and a new investor might add some money to Paul Lambert to strengthen his squad."

After their opening three games Villa face Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton and Yorke insisted they need points on the board early.

"It is important they get off to a good start," he said. "Paul Lambert has been at the football club three years, there has been talk about trying to progress Aston Villa in the right direction but it hasn't really materialised that way, they have struggled.

"They have shown signs at times when they play some fantastic football and got a fantastic result against Arsenal on the first day of last season. They seem to do well against the big teams but not consistently enough."
