Aston Villa's Ciaran Clark: Chris Herd will be just fine
Villa comeback kid Chris Herd was today backed to plug the gap left by the crocked Ron Vlaar.
Team-mate Ciaran Clark believes Herd will aid Villa's efforts after almost a year on the sidelines.
The defender made an encouraging appearance – his first since New Year's Day – despite Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Fulham.
He replaced the skipper – out with a calf injury – and could be in line to face Manchester United at the weekend if Vlaar fails to recover.
And Clark reckons new defensive partner Herd can be trusted to deputise again.
"Definitely, we've got a big enough and a good enough squad where if there are injuries people can come in, fill in and do a good job," he said.
"That's the thing which has happened this season. We've got some serious injuries at the minute with Jores (Okore) and we still have players to come in and fill the boots so that's a positive thing for us.
"There's competition all over the squad but with the training everyone is looking to make a mark and get themselves on the team sheet."
"It's a competitive edge we have in the week so when it comes to the games we're very much together and want each other to do well. It's very positive for us."
