Match report - Arsenal 1 Aston Villa 3

The striker struck twice in each half - netting a penalty rebound and also scoring from the spot – after Gabby Agbonlahor had twice been fouled.

Antonio Luna struck late debut goal to round off a brilliant win for Villa after they came from behind at the Emirates.

Olivier Giroud opened the scoring after just six minutes but the Gunners failed to fire after that and Laurent Koscielny was sent off in the second half.

Brad Guzan denied Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky but Villa were well worth their victory.

Victory handed Villa their first opening day win since a 3-0 win over West Ham in 2010.

Luna was the only summer signing to start with Jores Okore, Nicklas Helenius, Aleksandar Tonev, Leandro Bacuna and Jed Steer on the bench.

Theo Walcott recovered from the knee injury which forced him off for England in mid-week while Cazorla was benched for the Gunners after his round trip to Ecuador with Spain.

Arsenal bossed possession with Villa happy to soak up the pressure until the Gunners cut them apart on six minutes.

A fine turn from Rosicky released Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the left and he crossed for Giroud to tap in across the exposed Guzan.

It was too easy for the Gunners after Matt Lowton lost Rosicky and Giroud stole in between Ron Vlaar and Nathan Baker.

And Villa suffered a further blow on 17 minutes when Ciaran Clark replaced Baker after he failed to recover from an early foot injury following a challenge with Walcott.

They levelled five minutes later though after a brilliant run by Agbonlahor saw him burst past three challenge only to be brought down by Wojciech Szczesny when clean through.

The keeper was only booked and then saved Benteke's penalty – only for the striker to nod in the rebound.

It was the visitors' first effort of the half but they grew into the game with Arsenal rattled.

The Gunners' cool had evaporated but Villa were still guilty of lapses when Clark had to hack away Walcott's cross after Guzan and Luna tried to leave the ball to each other.

Szczesny then had his own mad moment as he raced out of his goal to clear to Ashley Westwood whose shot was eventually saved by the scrambling keeper.

Cazorla replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain at the break after the winger was injured in a challenge with Luna before half time.

And Arsenal started the second half with renewed vigour, with Rosicky blazing over from the edge of the area.

A minute later Fabian Delph rattled the inside of the post as the game maintained its frenetic pace and Villa took the lead in controversial fashion with another penalty on 61 minutes.

Agbonlahor stole possession in midfield and raced into the area, only to be felled the diving Koscielny – who looked to have got the ball – and Benteke made no mistake from the spot this time.

Koscielny – who was booked for the penalty – was then dismissed for his second yellow in six minutes after a late challenge on Andi Weimann.

Walcott fired a free kick over as a shellshocked Arsenal tried to recover and Guzan saved at Rosicky's feet after a neat link up with Giroud.

Villa were containing the Gunners well but relied on Guzan's heroics on 78 minutes when he acrobatically turned Cazorla's six yard volley onto the bar.

And Villa finished it with four minutes left when Luna broken clean through onto Weimann's pass to stroke past Szczesny.
