The unexpected U-turn followed face-to-face talks with manager Paul Lambert.
Villa feared they would have their top goalscorer stolen from under them after just one season, with Tottenham thought to be ready to engage in bidding for a player with a £25m price tag on his head.
But Lambert has now persuaded Benteke to stick with Villa – and double his money in a new contract which ties him to the club until 2017.
"I had a frank discussion with Christian on his return to training. It is my opinion that the best thing for Christian is to remain at Villa," said Lambert.
