But fellow midfielders Karim El Ahmadi and Fabian Delph have recovered from knee injuries and could feature in Sunday's game.

And, despite the fact Villa are two points adrift from safety in 19th place, manager Paul Lambert revealed nobody at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground has talked about relegation.

He said: "We never speak about it, to be honest. I think that's the belief we will get out of it. Everyone is focused on getting out of it and we will do that to the end.

"It's testament to the players. Even though we have had some heavy knocks before, they have kept their head up and kept their dignity which I think is a great thing as well.

"But we have to keep going and get out of it."
