Aldridge Cricket Club will welcome the footballing fraternity on Sunday when the Aston Villa All Stars team face a Walsall Phoenix Old Boys side.

The two will kick-off at 2pm in a friendly to raise funds for Phoenix, which was formed in 1897 and has eight regular junior and senior teams.

Villa can pick from players like Gordon Cowans, Colin Gibson, Tony Morley and Des Bremner, who won the European Cup with the club in 1982.

Pat Heard, Martin Carruthers and Bryan Small are likely to be involved, with ex-Villa defender and former Walsall manager Chris Nicholl acting as boss.

The rest of the playing personnel will be subject to availability but many former England internationals have turned out for the All Stars team.

These include Paul Merson, Stan Collymore, Dion Dublin, Ugo Ehiogu, Gavin McCann and Lee Hendrie.

Further internationals inclide Republic of Ireland-capped Steve Staunton and Mark Kinsella and Wales full-back Mark Delaney.

Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for under-16s, with a number of hospitality and sponsorship packages available on request.

Spectators can also pay on the gate but, for more information, call 07803 297 125 or 07400 433 373.
