Andreas Weimann today revealed his determination to make an impact for Villa between now and the end of the season after his dramatic winner against Fulham.

The Austria under-21 striker came off the bench to score in injury time, as the claret and blues clinched their first victory at Villa Park since November and ended a seven-match winless on home soil.

Weimann said: "I have dreamed of that day for a long time and to get my first goal for the senior side, in front of the Holte End as well, I'm really happy, at the moment.

"You see the fans, everyone was going crazy and it was a big relief for us. We have not won for a long time at home and, for me, it was an unbelievable feeling really.

"I was always thinking to myself that, if I get the chance, I'm going to score it and, luckily, I got the chance and scored.

"I'm hoping that I'm going to get a few more chances now and, hopefully, show what I can do and get a few more goals.

"I think we played well and it will be hard to drop anyone, but I showed that I can be there to score a goal and, hopefully, I'll get a few more chances between now and the end of the season.

"All I can do is work hard in training and try to impress the manager. When I get my chance, I have to take it."

Weimann came on in the 71st minute for Charles N'Zogbia, but Villa boss Alex McLeish's decision to replace the French winger provoked a furious reaction from the home fans.

The crowd chanted "you don't know what you're doing" and booed the substitution, but McLeish hoped the fans were more agreeable with the switch.

He said: "The more home games you don't win, the fans are going to be on your back.

"It's something you don't want to be hearing, but it is part of the game and the modern day and I will take it on the chin

"I don't think it needs much excuse for them to get on my back just now. I'm pleased for the Villa fans and I hope they went home happy – and are happy with the substitutions I made, after all.

"The fans were great. They see a forward coming off and Charles had been in good form. But I did want to get Andreas on to the pitch, at some stage."
