Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey today hinted that a return to hometown club Leicester is on the cards when his contract expires next summer.
The powerful forward will be 34 in January and, despite his popularity with Villa boss Alex McLeish and the rest of his team-mates, his chances of earning a new deal are slim given his advancing years.
Villa are also keen to keep the amount they spend on wages under control and are likely to take the opportunity to get Heskey's off the accounts, which would pave the way for the veteran to rejoin his former club.
He said: "Hypothetically, I would love to go back, so never say never – but my current loyalty obviously remains to Villa.
"Because I was born and raised in Leicester, and my family still live there, and it is the club where everything started for me, I can't say I will never go back.
"Who knows where football will take me. We will have to just wait and see, but I can't rule it out."
