Jermaine Jenas today lifted the lid on the "heartbreaking" injuries which have delayed his Aston Villa debut.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been on loan at Villa from Tottenham for just over two months but has yet to be seen in a claret and blue shirt, having suffered a thigh injury and then a problem with his Achilles.
Villa boss Alex McLeish left Jenas out of his matchday squad for the game against Sunderland but there is a chance he could make the bench for the visit of Norwich this weekend.
Jenas said: "It's been very frustrating. When I first arrived I was flying in training. I was so excited and then I felt a little twinge in my quad.
"Then I had the Achilles injury too. It was heartbreaking. It's been a real test of mental strength. Thankfully I have had good people around me – my wife, my family - they have supported me and kept me focused."
