Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given is ready for an emotional day when he plays against Newcastle for the first time since he left the club two years ago.

The 35-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined Manchester City in January 2009, having spent more than a decade at St James' Park where he made 354 appearances.

Given said: "It's the first time I have played against Newcastle tomorrow, so there's no doubt it will be a bit strange for me.

"In the first year, they were down in the division below and the following season Joe Hart played so I haven't actually come up against them.

"It will be weird but I am looking forward to it and I am certainly looking to win the game. I have some fantastic memories of my time at Newcastle.

"It will always have a special place in my heart because both of my kids were born there, my friends still live there and some family members too.

"But come kick-off I want to win. I don't look back too much. I had a good time at Newcastle, enjoyed my time at Manchester City and now I'm excited about Villa."
