Ashley Young near to £16m Villa exit

Villa were today coming to terms with the impending departure of Ashley Young in a £16million move to Manchester United.

Young is expected to put the finishing touches on a move to Old Trafford, after his representatives finalised the terms of a £130,000-a-week contract which practically doubled his wages at Villa.

The 25-year-old winger, who has called off his wedding to long-term girlfriend Nicky Pike planned for tomorrow, will put pen to paper on a five-year deal and undergo a medical before next weekend.

The England international has only 12 months left on his contract left but had stated his desire to play Champions League football and elected to leave this summer, rather than as a free agent a year later.
